How To Install Reunion Patch Ff7 Crisis

After reading the entire thread concerning Reunion's patch, I decided that I should post up a tutorial on how to get it installed. It seems like rocket science but it isn't, and you will find yourself wondering why it was so hard once you get it right. I got it to work, and you can too.Note: This will only work with a maximum install of FF7 onto your hard drive. The data files needed to modify in order for this patch to operate correctly are normally located on the CD, and must be present on the hard drive in order to continue.

Reunion

I would recommend a full install anyway, since it's only 1 GB and boosts performance even without the patch.Step 1 - Update your gameThe first thing you want to do before starting any of this is to make absolute sure your version of FF7 has been updated to the final release. The patch I'm talking about is the final and official 1.02 patch released by Eidos. People have reported several strange issues and errors after trying to install the Reunion patch, and I believe this has to be one of the main causes. The update fixes several problems with the game and should be downloaded.

If you have not updated since purchasing your copy of FF7, do yourself a favor. Simply navigate to the directory in which you installed FF7 and replace the files 'FF7' and 'FF7Config' with the new files you downloaded in the update. After this you're ready to move on to the next step.Step 2 - 'Hacking' the char.lgp fileWhat we are doing here is replacing blocky images Squaresoft (now referred to as Square-Enix, obviously) inserted into the game with the battle textures you see while in a random battle. To do this, we are going to have to reach the images.

If you (hopefully) comprehend how.ZIP files work, then this really shouldn't be all that difficult to understand. The images for this game are not in the formats '.GIF', or '.JPEG' like the average computer operator might assume. In fact, this game reads these images in completely different formats.

What Square did with these special types of images after creating them was 'compress' them into one large file. This file being called the 'char.lgp'.You may notice other 'lgp' files by doing some exploring in your FF7 directory. Ignore them for now, what we want is the 'char.lgp' that the game uses to store it's images. Now there may be a question everyone is thinking right now, 'BUT VECLORD, HOW DO WE GET 2 TEH IMAGES WITH WINDOZE?' Well very simple: You can't. But is there another way? Yes, there is my friend! What do we use to get into the.lgp file then to unpack the images stored within?

We do it using this nifty little gadget appropiately named 'LGP Tools'. This magical tool is designed specifically for ripping open the mysterious char.lgp file and extracting it's images right in front of our naked innocent eyes. We will now proceed to in order to download this beautiful, beautiful tool. You should take note that LGP Tools 1.6.0 is the version you're going to want to use for this and is also the very version I have linked to, as people have reported several errors trying to do this with earlier versions.Step 3 - Retrieving images from the char.lgp fileNow with this tool we'll be able to open that stubborn little.lgp file and rip those files right outta there! For those who are inevitably thinking 'what in the hell is the point in doing this?' For one because I said to. Actually, Reunion's patch needs access to the images stored within the.lgp file in order to actually change anything.

This is one of the main things that throw people off and cause them to mess up. All the patch installer really does is modify several of the in-game images. It doesn't just spawn them out of nowhere, and you can't send the Reunion installation program hunting all over the char.lgp file. So if we're going to get anywhere, we'll need to do this before we actually install reunions patch. What you want to do is extract the files to reveal the tool you just downloaded (TGP Tools, that is). Now you want to click on the main executable. The blue comet that someone decided to write the black letters 'Fice Dula' on. We double click to find this.Well, this looks intimidating doesn't it?

Well, not really. At least not if you've been married for 12 years. But anyways, what we're going to do now is click on the 'Open' button. Another window pops up demanding to know what.lgp file we want to dig into. Inside this white box, you should see 2 files named 'char.lgp' and 'flevel.lgp'. If you do not see these files, you will need to navigate to them. Head on down to your FF7 directory (through THIS little window) and open a folder called 'data'.

Now open one called 'field'. And thare she blows.Which one of these two files do we click? We'll double click the char.lgp file, since we could open flevel.lgp if we felt like it, but it would be pretty pointless.

And if you don't know why, then you need to start paying attention because this next part must be peformed perfectly. I'm talking spitshine and crum cakes. If not, your char.lgp file may become corrupted at which point we'll need to find our FF7 CD (assuming we didn't download this game off Kazaa, which most of us probably did). Just to be safe, let's back up a couple of files before continuing on. Right click your char.lgp file in Windows and click 'Copy'. Now in a blank space, click 'Paste'. There's your backup!Repeat this for two more.lgp files in your FF7 installation, these two files are named 'menuus.lgp' and 'worldus.lgp' The reason why we do this is because the Reunion patch is going to modify these files, and if something goes wrong you won't be able to replace the files the patch modified with the originals.

In other words, you'll be f00kt. And for the record, menuus.lgp is located in the 'menu' folder while worldus.lgp is in a folder called 'wm'.Now if you're done with that, let's go back to what we were doing. In your 'field' folder (the one containing the files char.lgp and flevel.lgp). Create a folder here called 'char'.This is going to be the folder we extract the images to.

Click the 'Open' button in the LGP Tools program and open up 'char.lgp' (NOT your backup file). Lots of files huh? Click the 'Extr. All' button on the right. Now guess where we're going to extract all this cra-I mean stuff.

The 'char' folder we made a second ago. Now we'll need to wait a second because this can take a minute.Step 4 - Installing the Reunion patchDone extracting? Now we're going to download the latest version of Reunion's field patch. We will now unzip the files inside, and run the installer. Getting excited?

Well don't go into detail! Now this patch we've ran is going to.DELETE OUR COMPUTER. Actually, it's going to update the files we dug from the char.lgp file. No, really. We don't need to do anything fancy with the Reunion installer. As long as it's pointing to the 'data' folder in your FF7 directory it doesn't matter. After you do this, go back and delete your 'char.lpg' file. MAKE SURE you have backed it up before doing so.

If possible, I'd like not to be wrestled to the ground and have my family's life threatened because someone thought it was a good idea to delete their game's textures without backing them up.Step 5 - Repacking the updated files into a new.lgp fileNow here comes the hard part. We're going to use the program that's stuck with us all the way to the end, LGP Tools, to take all the work we've done in the 'char' folder and recompile it all into our very own.lgp file. Yes, we can do it! Take a deep breath, kiss your mother goodbye, and click the 'New' button inside LGP Tools.

LGP Tools will doubt our campaign by throwing us a pop up warning. But tell it to fear not! Between you, me, and 'it', victory is ours! In the next window navigate to your 'char' folder a time once more.

Click 'Ok' to command LGP Tools to strike with all it's might and soul into this folder. Another window comes up. We boldly type in 'char.lgp', confirming our attempt to overthrow the old char.lgp with our new char.lgp (if that even makes sense).Just click save and get it over with. Now for some reason, after clicking the button to save, LGP Tools just kind of stares at you for a little bit like as if it's in utter disbelief as to what you're doing. Keep your mouse scrolled over it until the timer turns back into an arrow.

After this, we have succeeded!Step 6 - The Clean-UpNot much to do for this one. Now that we have a new.lgp file, you can go ahead and delete the 'char' folder that the uncompressed files were in. Because we can!Now run the game.

You do not need to start a new game now that these textures have been installed but you can if you feel like it. To avoid watching the introduction we all know we've watched a million times, go ahead and load a saved file if you have one. If Cloud's texture has been replaced with a taller, higher detailed figure the likes of which we have never seen (except during the last battle), you have successfully completed this tutorial and I congratulate you. If not, just know that persistance pays. From this point on, the detail of the main characters of the game are going to be, as my Uncle Nelson used to say: A bucket full o' whoop ass. And better yet, it proves a great story to tell your grandkids one day.Mod Edit (SB): Added tutorial tag. Dziugo: Thank you much for respond.

Yes I overwrited files in HDD (Final Fantasy VIIdatafield), exatcly as Veclord's tutorial. But when I try to run ff7.exe so I have to run FF7 cdrom too, and i think it crashes because FF7 reads 'datafields' in CD-R too?Do you really play FF7 with CD-R? Or this tutorial is only for No-CD crack? If you don't understand me, so take a look here:as you see the original file in CD-R is smaller than the new file in HDDIt's what i think that FF7 can't read two different but 'same' files in both CD-R and HDD, who causes crash? Do you run FF7 cd, or no-cd crack? Maybe I did something wrong or my computer is stupid. But I will not give up, till I get it working If you run FF7 cd, then you can please tell me if there are orginal LGP-files in CD (ff7datafield).

Or they have been overwrited? But it's guarantee that I followed Veclord's tutorial very exactly. But it don't work still. Thank you for the advice. After reading your message I added a line at the very beginning of the guide. I was assuming that everyone ran the game with a full installation, and that's a big no no.cloudis, The fact that the char.lgp file on your CD and hard drive are different sizes is very strange to me. If I were you I would back up my save files and completely uninstall the current FF7 installation, and start this process off a completely fresh install.

Be sure to select a maximum install during the setup.Something I also noticed; Are you using Linux? Your taskbar and etc. Look different but it could just be a skin you're using.

If you are on Linux, then unfortunately you're likely to have to be jumping through quite a few hoops to get FF7 working alone. Much less a modified version of it. Yarr, I'm back. So, I did it exactly as said in that magnificent tutorial, but a crash occurs when trying to start the game.

And I mean when I click the exe., it won't even go to the main menu.Maybe it's the LPG Tools.Does it matter if the Ficedule.dll file is version 1.51? At least I couldn't find a 1.6 version at the site. And yes, I do have the bought version of the game, updated to 1.2, maximum install and all that. But I do have the high resolution-patch installed, and the JENOVA-program too.Re-install, anyone?Edit:The re-install didn't work. The game just won't start.Pfft, I cannot be arsed anymore.:zG'day.

So recently I decided I wanted to replay FF7, and since there was a lot of buzz around a these mods I wanted to try them out. I discovered that getting them to work together was kind of a pain in the ♥♥♥♥♥ and I saw others where having issues as well. That kind of sucks unfortunately. The Game Converter doesn't work on.nix based systems and getting a working converted version on them is a nightmare.

I really hope a solution that works with the steam version out of the box is made as it will not only help those of us who aren't on Windows but also the less tech oriented users to install the mods.EDIT: Just realised that if you convert the game it still doesn't matter because you can't run the game through wine, through 7TH Heaven. Meaning the game will never launch with your mods.

I'm having huge issues, when I open it the textures are all bunk though the reunion menus are working fine.

If I try to start a new game it just goes black, I feel I followed everything although I'm having a hard time understanding one of your steps'You may be tempted to change the exe to one of the other in the install directory, DON'T. FF7.exe is what you want, otherwise thing will break' is this about changing the name of the ff7.exe to the 'bc' version I'm also so confused about all the 7th Heaven folders and where each should be goingi was able to get the hd texture pack working earlier but then the text was an unaligned mess, now it's the other way round.
